European removals from Cheshire to Europe
From here, Europe begins with most of the length of England. That makes the packing specification matter more than it does from Kent, and it makes the loading hour matter more than anything.
A European move from Cheshire begins the way a local one does: somebody walks the property, measures the volume properly, and decides what each item needs. The route, the vehicle and the customs entry all follow from that inventory.
What differs between the four is not really the driving. It is what has to be true before the vehicle can leave, and what the journey does to the contents once it has.
France
The shortest of the four, though from here that still means the length of England first. Frequently rural at both ends — the French lane has the same problems as the Cheshire one.

The longest road: England, France, the Pyrenees, then most of Spain. Summer heat inside the vehicle and the gates, lifts and village streets at the far end are what get planned.

Over the Alps or round them into Liguria. The restricted-access zones around historic centres are a permit exercise begun while the survey is still fresh, not when the vehicle is already in France.

The furthest by road and the most administratively particular, with one consular certificate at the front of it — and storage here while it comes together.

A load leaving Cheshire runs south on the M6, crosses to the M25 or the M40, and joins the M20 or M2 for the Kent crossings. That is a full day of driving before the Channel, which is why we plan the departure against the hour you can actually load rather than an optimistic one.
We also collect elsewhere in the UK when a household is split — a flat in London, a parent's house in Manchester or Birmingham, a unit in Bristol, or belongings still in Leeds, Glasgow or Edinburgh. Say so in the brief so the route is costed from the start.
Export wrapping is a different specification
This is where a cheap cross-channel quote usually hides. A load crossing a border travels further, is handled more, and may be opened for inspection. Domestic packing is not built for any of that.
- Heavier cartons and more edge and corner protection
- Moisture protection on upholstery and mattresses
- Purpose-made cases for framed work and mirrors
- Crating for stone and glass tops
- An inventory specific enough that an opened carton matches the paperwork
If you are comparing two quotes, check whether the other prices export or domestic packing.
Dedicated vehicle or shared space
Dedicated
Your load, your vehicle, your dates, and the fewest possible handlings. Right for a full household with firm dates at both ends.
Shared space, or groupage
Your goods travel with other consignments going the same way and you pay for the space you occupy. It suits smaller loads and dates that can bend. It involves more handlings, and we will point that out rather than selling the cheaper option quietly.
Customs, since Brexit
A household move into the EU is a formal customs movement. It needs a detailed inventory doubling as a packing list, evidence you are transferring your normal residence rather than importing commercially, and the destination country's own relief process.
That last part is where the four genuinely differ — which is why each route page sets out its own sequence rather than repeating a generic paragraph. We prepare what is ours and mark plainly which items only you can obtain, on day one rather than in the final fortnight.
What to send us
Both addresses, a sense of the volume, rough dates, whether shared space is an option, and how far along you are with any residence paperwork. Start on the quote page.
European move questions
Short answers. If yours is not here, send it with your enquiry and we will answer it properly.
Do you run the vehicles yourselves?
We survey, pack and load. The load travels with a vehicle and crew we have arranged, and on shared space it travels alongside other consignments going the same way. That is what groupage is, and we say it plainly rather than implying a private lorry.
Dedicated vehicle or shared space?
Dedicated if your dates are firm and it is a whole household. Shared if the load is modest and you can accept a delivery window. The honest trade-off on shared space is more handlings, not just more waiting.
How does packing change?
A load crossing a border travels further, is handled more, and may be opened for inspection. Heavier cartons, moisture protection, cases for framed work, crating for stone and glass, and an inventory specific enough that an opened carton matches the paperwork.
How long will it take?
That depends on the route, the clearance and, on shared space, when the vehicle fills. Your written quote gives an expected window. We will not give you a day count we cannot stand behind.
Can you collect from a second UK address?
Yes, and it is common when a household is split. Mention every address in the brief so the route and timing are costed from the start.
Can the load wait in store first?
Frequently necessary, because sales rarely line up with residence paperwork. Goods are packed, wrapped and inventoried and travel once the documents exist.
Planning a move to Europe?
Send both addresses, rough dates and a sense of the volume. We will come back with the route, the options and what has to be true before the vehicle can leave.
